I've tried really hard to make sure that I am efficient with my planning. In other words, why plan 22 different lessons when I can plan 4 and use the same activity(just a little modified) for all of my classes?
Call it lazy, call it smart. I don't care. Here are a few templates for activities I plan for my students:
1.Bingo Boards: These bingo boards have random numbers 1-12 and students receive post it notes for the categories above the numbers. I used the bingo game for teaching numbers, frequency, parts of speech etc.
Frequency: students roll two dice and try to make a sentence that MAKES sense. For example: I brush my teeth 3 times a day. A proper sentence.
Numbers: students roll dice, say the number, cross it off on their board. Student who gets black out first wins.
2. Flip cup: yes, the drinking game.
Place cups kid down on the table, with just a bit of the kid hanging over the table( so you can use your finger to flip the cup to an upright position). The target language is used in place of drinking whatever is in the cup. For example, students will answer the question "how often do you wash your hands," and they will respond with "I wash my hands______times a____. Once they have used the TL, they try to flip the cup upright. It works for pretty much anything.
3. As fast as you can....or as many times as you can....
Basically, each group if students has to come with the "most amount of" whatever it is you're looking for.
Example: gather several pictures of well-known or strange-looking individuals with prominent features. Set students on a 30 second timer, and instruct them to find right down as many descriptions as possible. The team who wins must read their descriptions out to the class.
