i really enjoy my afterschool classes because they're small, and the students are actually learning quite a bit of english. my afterschool class consists of a whopping 3 students. three girls. two of them are in 3rd grade, and one is in 4th grade. because the class is so small, i often spend a lot of time talking to the girls and really getting them to practice normal conversational english skills. we recently spent a whole month learning the months of the year, talking about birthdays, and parties. we figured out when each others birthday's were and decided we were going to have a party. two of the girls, lily and rachel, had birthdays last week, my afterschool class meets monday, wednesday, and thursday, so i promised the girls that we'd have a small party.
so, thursday rolled around, and i bought a couple of brownies (four to be exact) and packs of pencils for the birthday girls. we completed our "study time" and then sang happy birthday. I gave the girls their "gifts" and handed out the brownies. it was two of the students' birthdays so two of them received gifts. there was one leftover brownie, so i told the girls to split the brownie into three. the one girl, miso, whose birthday is in may, was a little upset, because she thought she deserved the brownie since the other girls got pencils. but i told her when it was her birthday she would be the only one with a gift and a brownie so she'd be happy.
the next week came upon (monday) and everything was fine. today however, the co-teacher who is in charge of after school programs said, ' miso's mom called and she said she did not want to come to after school class anymore."
