So in my last post, I complained a little about some of the things that are "lacking" in Korea. Well, there are also some wonderful amenities that I wouldn't mind having back in the states:
1. PC Bang---A PC room...basically, all of the RPG addicts and those who do not have computers at home can rent a PC for about $1 per hour. This is a great option for anyone, and a lucrative industry here. These PC rooms also sell snacks and beverages....granted there's lots of cigarette smoke and just plain sketchy individuals, but with a few regulations, these places could be a hit.
2. DVD Room: basically, you take a bunch of your friends, rent a room, and watch DVDs. Kinda like a personal movie theatre, except with movies that have already been released. Regardless, this is a nice alternative to a movie theatre or a night at a friend's place.
3. Pay someone else at an ATM. Paying your water bill, landlord, friend, or cellphone bill is very easy. Simply go to an ATM, type in the account number, and your money will be transferred to the appropriate party. Super Simple for those who do not do online banking, and much easier than a wire transfer, western union, or talking to a bank teller.
4. Automated bus system routes: at every bus stop, there is a touch screen where you can scroll through to see bus routes and times. if you're not sure what bus stops where or what time the bus arrives, simply touch the bus number on the screen and all of the information is accessible. This saves me a lot of headaches...especially when my hangul is translation is spot on.
5. Slippers in the classroom. If you're a teacher in the US and you wear heels to work... Need I say more?
6.Banks EVERYWHERE...
7.floor heating. 99% of apartments.
8. $.80 for 2L bottle of water: get with the program USA. And on that note, water filtration stations EVERYWHERE...
So, Korea has a LOT to offer in terms of entertainment, efficiency, etc. I wouldn't mind bringing some of this back to the states.
